The Independent Commission on New York City Criminal Justice and Incarceration Reform, chaired by former Chief Judge of the State of New York Jonathan Lippman, is a fully independent body of two dozen experts, policymakers, and advocates from a variety of backgrounds, including law enforcement, academia, judges, advocacy groups, business, and those who have spent time behind bars.
Our mission is to create a blueprint for an improved criminal justice system reflecting our city’s values of decency, dignity, and equal treatment before the law.
We will be working with a wide range of stakeholders, including prosecutors, correction officers, civil rights leaders, elected officials, community leaders, formerly incarcerated individuals, and others to get their perspective on how best to reform our current system. We will also be engaging you, the public, on how we can create a better and more just system for all.
Please share your thoughts on how we can create a more just New York City.
